Thinkpad P52 HDMI sound output issues
Hey Guys,
I have a brand new Thinkpad P52 that seems to be having issues with HDMI audio.
Essentially what happens is that when I restart my computer, all is well and sound starts playing from HDMI as expected. But overtime, if I put the computer to sleep or let the computer idle so that it goes to the lock screen and then turns off the screen, when I return from either state, very often the HDMI output playback device in the Windows Sound playback settings just dissapears and I lose all HDMI audio (video works fine). I have to restart my computer at this point for it to come back.
Sometimes when I resume my computer from either sleep or the screen turned off state, the HDMI audio device will still be there, but the sound quality suffers substantially and sounds very "wavy" instead of a clean crisp sound. Usually after that state, follows the HDMI audio device dissapearing entirely after a sleep or screen turn off state again.
I have all the latest lenovo drivers installed from Lenovo Vantage including the Thunderbolt firmware. I have even tried this same HDMI setup I have on my older Lenovo W540 laptop and that has no issues whatsoever.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Lenovo P52 CPU overheating bug – Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
Hello!
We are currently having issues with our Lenovo P52 ThinkPad laptops, specifically with the CPUs overheating on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I have already done some research and it appears to be a known bug with the fans on the P52 while running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi/+bug/1800838
We currently see many events like the following `CPU3: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled` when we run a dmesg.
Has anyone else come across this? Is there a fix or does someone from Lenovo know of a workaround? The P52 is great, but this is a big worry for us and would rather not prefer to look for another high-end laptop solution for our developers. We have tried other versions of Ubuntu with the same
Thank you,
Nevan
Thinkpad P52 Screen a Warmer Tone
Hey Guys,
I have a brand new Thinkpad P52 with the 1080p IPS screen on it (no touch screen or 4K res). But when I compared it to my older W540 which also had a 1080p but with a TN panel instead of IPS, it seems the whites are much more yellowish and the screen in general is a warmer tone. I have a brand new Thinkpad X1 Carbon with a 4k screen on it and I can definitely see that it has a cooler tone to the screen just like my older W540 did compared to my P52.
I had a temporary replacement P52 sent to me and that was even worse, so I was just wondering is this normal for this screen? Has anyone else noticed this? I have all Lenovo Vantage updates installed including the latest Lenovo screen calibration file.
Thanks for your help!
Simple Graphics for ThinkCentre Edge 72 3493 – what works?
All I need to keep using this machine is an HDMI output, but I know diddly-squat about graphics cards!
Will an Asus GeForce GT 710 1GB DDR3 Graphics Card (less than £30) do the trick? It appears to be OK as PCI Express 2.0 will work in PCI Express 1.0 slot, just at a lower speed?
Appreciate any advice, many thanks.
