P51s: BitLocker, TPM, alternate boot devices

zoltanthegypsy – question regarding P51s and recovery. I have a requirement to backup nightly (Acronis 2019) using two rotating 4TB USB drives (one drive is always off-site while the other is connected to the PC). Backing up to the Cloud was considered a security risk and not approved, thus the USB drives. Currently, I perform a full backup nightly. The PC is running Win10 x64 Pro and using Bitlocker on ALL drives. I’m still implementing the backup procedure and I think I will have it completed by next week. The big question is recovery.
I was going to create an Acronis Thumbdrive for recovery and just tonight I noticed in the UG it states “If you are using the Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption feature and your computer has a Trusted Platform Module, do not change the startup sequence.” OK, if I cannot change the startup sequence (boot selection) how in the heck do I boot from the Acronis Thumbdrive and recover? Any other issues I need to be concerned about?

BIOS Update H0ETA0WW (2.60) for ThinkPad E530 fails to update ECP

Applied BIOS Update H0ETA0WW (2.60) and found that the ECP remained at the previous version H0HT99WW (2.59)

Attempted to apply update a second time and installation terminated with message that update not need.

Attemped manual update with "WINUPTP -s" which failed; log indicates failure due to rollback prevention.

After disabling rollback prevention, manual update succeeds but with same result.

UEFI BIOS: H0ETA0WW (2.60)

Embedded Controller Version: H0HT99WW (2.59)

Winuptp.log:

[2018/10/2 10:50:48] OS = Windows 10 64bit Driver Loading….Done System BIOS Version -> H0ET99WW Applying BIOS Version -> H0ETA0WW AC adapter/Battery check….OK. BIOS Flashing….BIOS Flash completed. Any suggestions on how to get ECP to update to correct version, H0HTA0WW (2.60)?

Would it be better to rollback to BIOS Update 2.59? Note that 2.60 has important security fixes.

Can't update to new BIOS (6KCN40WW)

Hi

I had issues with installing a new BIOS on this machine (IdeaPad 720s-13ARR) for a long time now. It came shipped with version 29. Then v38 was released – couldn’t update.

Then v30 was released – it worked.

And now v40 is released and it doesn’t work again. After starting the setup it states:

"Your on board BIOS is for OS Version 15063 only, can’t update to current new BIOS."

Why does the newest BIOS version (released Aug 2018) only support a Win version which is 1,5y old and get’s support cancelled in 1 year from now?

I have Win version 17134 and BIOS v30.

Please help

Thank you & best regards,
