T570 PM961 Samsung NVMe SSD slow

Hello all

 

I have been using this latop for about a month and it felt slower than my alternate Dell XPS with very similar specs.  It has a Samsung 850 Pro SSD, which is technically slower than PM961 on the lenovo.  However, all my programs seem slower and jittery – the same programs runs butter smooth on my Dell.  

 

I have installed the latest NVMe drivers from Samsung, am not using thunderbolt port and also using Intel Rapid storage technology.  What may be causing this slowness?

 

The programs I mainly use are for development: Eclipse, IntelliJ, database daemons etc.

Downgrading to Windows 7 on x1 Yoga (2016)

How anyone had any experience downgrading to windows 7 on a X1 yoga (2016) machine?

 

I usually have no issues installing windows 7 on thinkpads with standard SSD drive, but X1 Yoga came with samsung PM871 M.2 (which is non-NVMe I believe), I can’t get Windows 7 installation screen to show the drive.

 

The USB boot drive does have USB 3.0 driver already installed (I have successfully installed Windows 7 onto T440s without issues), since PM871 is a non-NVMe, no Samsung NVMe driver is needed.

 

The PM871 is currently formatted in GPT, will I need to take it out and format it in MBR first and change to legacy boot in Bios in order to see the drive in Windows 7 installation?

Flex 5 1570 2in1 and bios V.4QCN43WW

Lenovo System update recommends this Bios update but it fails to install.

 

If I download the update and start it, the warning says that it is for the Flex 5 1570 2in1 14 only. My screen is a 15.

 

I did not try to force the install.

 

What should I do?

Yoga 900-13ISK – LCD screen problems

Bios c6cn39ww, I have been having trouble using the laptop, as soon as I move the screen it will go off, if I slowly move the screen back to a certain spot it will show again. it as if I just dim the screen, if I hook up an external monitor it works fine. what I’ve done so far, removed and reloaded the complete computer to factory, no help, I then removed the battery – reinstalled and again same problem., next I read the ribbon cable might be loose, I removed the back and moved the ribbon and did not get any flickers on the screen so My thoughts are the ribbon cable is good. I then re installed the lenova drivers and I’m having no luck repairing. I then ran the lenovo diagnostic, all passed until I got to Accelerometer interactive test it failed (9s)??? the error is unexpected values read from the sensor.

and Gyrometer interactive test failed (39s)?? unexpected values read from the sensor.. I’m not sure what the 9s or the 39s stands for.

also these test were run while the external monitor was connected in extended screen mode. nothing on the laptop monitor back light on just no desktop, the external monitor was perfect..

Ideas appreciated. this laptop has been great its been used very little, basically just to read the paper in the morning, never dropped

Y710 Cube – GPU thermal throttling. Whats your temperature?

I’ve spent days and days to try to get this machine stable. It seems to have a massive flaw keeping the GPU cool. Without an external software with a custom fan curve the gpu will easily hit 82*c and above, leading Pascals Turbo Boost 3.0 to throttle voltage and core speed. Resulting in stutter and sub par performance.

 

Even with a custom profile I need to run the fans at 60-70% to keep a stabile 70 degrees. Which makes for a very loud computer.

 

I also notice the voltage to the gpu is quite low compaired to nvidias recommendations. Usually around 1.03v untill it stars thermal throttling.

 

I am not overclocking the GPU. 

 

What temps have you recorded? Did you find a way to fix it? Wondering if it could be something simple as bad thermal paste.
